The PEI Business Women’s Association announced the recipients of the 2017 PEIBWA Micro-Grant in support of Women in Business at an event in Charlottetown on Tuesday afternoon.

“The mandate of the PEI Business Women's Association is to support women in business - and those who want to be in business. By creating the PEIBWA Micro-Grant in 2016 and continuing to make it available, we can directly support Island women to follow their dreams of business success,” explained Sarah Dunphy, president of PEIBWA. “Funds for the micro-grants are allocated from our annual fundraising events (Camp Dynamo and Women in Business Symposium) and are open to any woman who is a resident of PEI.”

The PEIBWA Micro-Grant is designed to help new, growing, and established women entrepreneurs through a non-repayable grant and business skills support. The grant provides successful applicants with a non-repayable investment of up to $500, with 75% payable on approval and remaining payable on completion of final report. Full details about the PEIBWA Micro-Grant can be found on the PEI Business Women’s Association’s website

“Thanks once again to support from private donors who have chosen to stay anonymous, we are able to offer five micro-grants this year, more than doubling what we were originally able to offer this year,” states Hannah Bell, Executive Director of PEIBWA. “We were thrilled by the applications that we received and cannot wait to see what the recipients do next.”

PEI Business Women’s Association received close to thirty applications from women in the following communities across the Island: Clinton, Montague, Donaldston, Brookfield, Iona, Summerside, Pinette, Scotchfort, Stratford, Marshfield and Charlottetown. An independent advisory panel met to review the applications and select the recipients for this year's awards.

The successful grant recipients for 2017 are Judith Bayliss (Ruby Lou PEI), Eva Bulman (Eva’s Landscaping and Flower Bed Maintenance), Ashley Condon (Copper Bottom Brewing), Jana Hemphill (Storybook Adventures & Nature Retreat Inc) and Jenny O’Halloran (Jenny’s Foot Care).
