Margaret Magner, Ph.D, M.A., M.P.W.: Executive Director

Margaret Magner is Executive Director of the PEI Business Women’s Association. She has taught in Canadian and U.S. universities and held a number of positions, including Director of Development for the William J. Clinton Foundation; Presidential Speechwriter, Development Communications Senior Writer, and Corporate Relations Director at the University of Southern California; and Director of Bioscience Development at UPEI, where she continues to teach for the Faculty of Business and Department of English. Her company Magner Ink specializes in communication services. She is a Governor of the National Theatre School of Canada.


Mary Lou Bassett: Business Development and Membership Officer

Mary Lou Bassett is the Business Development and Membership Officer of the PEI Business Women's Association. She is an entrepreneur with over 20 years experience in the hospitality, skin care and property management industries. She recently completed her Executive MBA from the University of Prince Edward Island. In her new role, Mary Lou, who is conversant in English, French and Arabic, will build and strengthen PEIBWA's membership and serve as an advisor to help members solve business-related problems. Mary Lou also sits on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity PEI and says she has honed her negotiation skills with a lot of help from her three children.


Sparrow McGowan: Events and Communications Officer

Sparrow McGowan is the Events and Communications Officer of the PEI Business Women's Association. She has 15 years of experience spanning communications, journalism and events, in Canada and internationally. Most recently, she was the Communications Manager for the Commonwealth of Learning, an international intergovernmental organization based in Vancouver, BC. Sparrow is also an active freelance writer, and holds a Masters in Journalism and a BA (Hon) in Environmental Studies. 


Emerald Naylor: Programs and Events Assistant

Emerald Naylor is the Programs and Events Assistant of the PEI Business Women's Association, as part of the Canada Summer Jobs Program. She is completing her Master of Arts in Island Studies with a thesis that looks at the culture of astronomy in Hawai’i. In 2017, she graduated from the University of Waterloo with a BA (Hon) in English Literature and History. Emerald was the previous Vice President of UPEI’s Graduate Student Association, and was a strong advocate for more resources for arts students, and better mental health support for graduate students. Through her research and schooling, she has traveled to the Netherlands, Ottawa, and Hawai’i. Emerald enjoys running social media accounts and coming up with creative twists to old trends and events.
