Join us on Friday, April 23rd from 10:00 am - 11:00 am as we welcome Serena Smith, Associate with Cox & Palmer in Summerside, to talk about corporate structure and introduction to basic contracts. The topics covered will include:


  • Review the legal structure of businesses: sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation
  • Advantages and disadvantages of each structure
  • Introduction to Contracts

Serena is an associate in the Summerside office of Cox & Palmer. She obtained her law degree from the University of New Brunswick in 2019 and was called to the Prince Edward Island Bar in 2020. A practical problem solver, Serena dedicated her time in law school to experiential learning opportunities including coordinating the Pro Bono Students Canada Wills Project, chairing the University of New Brunswick Student Discipline Committee, volunteering with the Fredericton Legal Advice Clinic and interning with the New Brunswick Child & Youth Advocate. In her final year of law school, Serena completed a Public Prosecutions internship as well as an Attorney General internship. Prior to law school, Serena obtained a Bachelor of Social Work from St. Thomas University in 2014 and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Brunswick in 2012. Serena currently maintains a general legal practice, with a growing interest in interest in family law, corporate commercial law, real estate law, general litigation, insurance defence and wills and estate planning.

NOTE: Registration is required to attend. This session will be offered both in person at PEIBWA's Rural Women's Business Centre in Central Bedeque and virtually. Health and safety protocols including social distancing are in place at the Rural Women's Business Centre. If you are joining us virtually, you will be provided with a Zoom meeting link once you complete your online registration.

Conversation Corner began as a small gathering around the kitchen table at our Rural Women's Business Centre in Central Bedeque in November 2019 and continues as an informal and informative platform for women in business to learn and share.
